Rotterdam 2035 VR Game
The year is 2035. The Netherlands has undergone a significant transformation following the 2032 electricity grid collapse and the acceleration of climate change. Rising waters have flooded cities, permanently reshaping urban infrastructure. What was once road space, "kilometres of asphalt dedicated to cars" has become something entirely different.
As countries worldwide shifted away from oil dependency, the Netherlands faced a perfect storm: electricity shortages made electric vehicles impractical, while climate-driven flooding made traditional cars obsolete. Power became rationed strictly for public use, no private electric vehicles, no gas-powered cars.
But the Dutch did what they always do. They adapted.
They elevated their signature mode of transportation: the bicycle. Rather than build expensive boats to meet transportation demands, engineers adapted existing bikes to float on water. It was practical and sustainable.
Why create new infrastructure when you can transform what already exists?
